Book Review: A Piece of Cake (a memoir) by Cupcake Brown

I’ve read some really good books over my somewhat short 27 years. REALLY good books. I was browsing the shelves at Barnes & Noble a couple of months back when I came upon ‘A Piece of Cake‘. It, as a lot of books always are, was in the by 2 get 1 free section of the store. Generally my first stop when visiting a store like that.

Good Reads states the following –

This is the heart-wrenching true story of a girl named Cupcake and it begins when, aged eleven, she is orphaned and placed in the ‘care’ of sadistic foster parents. But there comes a point in her preteen years – maybe it’s the night she first tries to run away and is exposed to drugs, alcohol, and sex all at once – when Cupcake’s story shifts from a tear-jerking tragedy to a dark, deeply disturbing journey through hell.

The back of the book is a bit different but states basically the same. I mean, a journey through hell? I don’t want to sound like a crazy person (generally i’m trying to avoid that) but that sounded like something that I just had to read.

My idea of this book was that it would be somethings similar to ‘A Million Little Pieces‘. Everybody knows that story. The author that Oprah went crazy over and the entire book turned out to be more of a fabrication than a memoir.Well, i was wrong. Although i found it to be a similar concept the actual layout of the book and of course the story was completely different.

Invisalign – Set 01

Personal , Reviews • Jan 22, 2013

Tomorrow I put in my second set of INVISALIGN BRACES. I have to admit that the first few days were rough. The pain honestly wasn’t all that bud but the fact that my mouth seemed to be in continuous turmoil was the issue. I felt the constant need to want to pull out the braces and relive that pressure that was being applied to my teeth.

By day three all of the irritation seemed to be gone. The only thing at this point that i find to be annoying is the amount of work and discomfort required to remove the braces and the amount of time I feel like i’ve spent cleaning them over the past few weeks. I initially had the idea that the Invisalign would be ideal because they can be moved in and out of my mouth at will. But, it’s a giant pain in the butt! The bright side of everything is that I don’t have to worry about ungodly amounts of mindless snacking.

Overall the experience has been nothing like what I thought it was going to be (please note above). I would never go back and change my mind. I would consider the option of standard braces a little more than though. I know that the pain is worse, the scarring is a bit more permanent, and your food options at time can be limited but at least you never have to take the darn things out!

REVIEW: WWE 13

WWE13
Release: October 30, 2012
Platform: PS3, XBOX 360, Wii
Publisher: WWE and THQ
Genre:  Professional Wrestling
ESRB: T (content may be suitable for ages 13 and older)
Overall Rating: ♣ ♣ ♣ ♣ ♣

The game focuses on the Attitude Era of WWE, replacing its Road to WrestleMania Mode with an Attitude Era Mode where the player plays through the Attitude Era in 6 different storylines. The game also brings back its Predator Technology engine, adding in a new audio system called WWE Live. The game is said to be the second phase of a “Revolution” in WWE video games, with cover athlete CM Punk taking charge. Following release and positive reception, the game would be nominated for the Spike VGA for Best Individual Sports Game

There isn’t to much about this game that I can say that hasn’t already been said on sites such as IGN, WWE Games, Gamespot, IMDB, and many others! For video games fanatics, sports freaks, and WWE fans alike this game is absolutely top-notch! I have been playing WWE video games since their Nintendo 64 release of WWF NO MERCY. So many great games have come. Wrestlemania 2000, Smackdown! line, and Smackdown Vs. Raw line. Many more as well. WWE and THQ really revolutionized the sports entertainment video gaming experience with the initial launch of WWE 12. The gaming system was COMPLETELY resigned and made easy to use for every gamer young and old.

I have to be honest and say that although I miss the idea of the road to Wrestlemania mode I don’t miss the actual road to Wrestlemania. I am loving the attitude era mode. I began my journey with WORLD WRESTLING ENTERTAINMENT back in 1998 when the attitude era was really beginning to kick off. I was HUGE DX/HHH/Stephanie McMahon fan and remained that way until today. Side note, i’m a bit bummed HHH is retiring (for now) and that he cut his hair! This installment from the WWE franchise of games really was a well loved trip down memory lane.

Another great thing about this game is how easy it is to play. My one complaint with the game is that there is no training mode. My partner can’t play the game simply because I don’t have the patience to teach and he doesn’t have the patience to read the manual to learn. WWE 12 had a very annoying opening sequence to the game that slowly taught you how to play. I complained about that but now there is no way to learn how to play the game until you ACTUALLY play and read up a bit (if you’ve never played a WWE video game).

The game really makes up for this one spot it is lacking in how real the game looks. Check out Triple H’s entrance video below,

How awesome is that? I can not get over how real this game looks. There are a few annoying glitches in the game as far as graphics go but hell, its a video game. You can’t expect anything more. This game is a great play and can’t wait to get more game time in. Has anyone else played the game? Thoughts?

Found footage helps a true-crime author realize how and why a family was murdered in his new home, though his discoveries put his entire family in the path of a supernatural entity.

I wasn’t expecting to enjoy this movie as much as I actually did. I’m not a big horror movie fan but this time of year I just can’t help but indulge myself in a good horror flick (or two). I had seen previous for this and though that it looked like it might be something a little different then the horribly cheesy movies that come out around this time of year.

The plot to the movie is interesting, VERY interesting. I’m realizing that as i’m typing this there really isn’t much that I can say without giving away the movie. So please, be prepared, there may be an accidental spoiler leak so please proceed with caution.

The story is about a one-hit-wonder true crime author that moves to a small town. The key thing is that the town is home to a brutal crime and a missing child. Not only does the man move his family to this small town be he moves them right into the house where the crime happened. The story unfolds as unusual things begin to happen to the family within the home. The story continues to evolve as the family deals with the house changing as well. I know.. sounds weird. Thats the point!

The author ends up unravelling more and more gut wrenching details about the crimes he came to write about as the story goes on and slowly he becomes lost in his own nightmare. The ending to this movie is great. It really ties everything together better than most. You are in no way left hanging. I rate this a 3 and a definite must see! CAUTION: nightmares are to be expected!
