Clean Slate

GGMT , Personal • Mar 14, 2023

It’s been awhile! I feel like I should start by say something goofy like here we go again or starting over but I’m not going to do that. I’ll save you the entire back story but, yet again, I’m switching it up.

This site was always intended to be a blog. It’s transitioned a few times over the years but I want to bring it back. I think the last few posts were in terms of the business side of the site. That was closed in 2019. Not necessarily because I didn’t want to continue but because our son was born. I wanted to give him 100% of my time and not have to worry about doing things like orders, marketing, etc. It’s not something I in anyway regret.

What’s my focus going to be? I’m going to be cliche and say it’s a lifestyle blog. My husband and I are raising a rambunctious four year old and feel that we have tidbits of wisdom that we could offer. Hopefully something small that could change at least one person’s day if not their life.

When am I going to post? For now, I think the goal is going to be bi-weekly (twice a month). I don’t want to overcommit to anything. I want this to be light and breezy and a bit cathartic so twice a month feels right.

Over the next few months look for a complete redesign and overhaul of the site. I’m going to drop the shopping platforms on the site and push back in some of the old pages. Fanlistings anyone? LOL. Those still exist in the back hall of this site so look for that to make it’s reappearance.

Seasons Greetings

GGMT , Holidays , Personal • Dec 5, 2016

seasonsgreetingsTis’ the season! Holiday decorations, pine scented candles, christmas lights, decorated trees, hot chocolate and so much more! There are so many great things to love about the holiday season. It’s my favorite time of the year for so many great reasons.

The last few years have been very different since my mom passed. She left me with so many beautiful memories that I have plenty to look back on and be grateful for. My mom was the type of parent that could hardly wait for Christmas to begin opening presents. Lets be real, she also didn’t want me waking her up early so many times we did our presents on Christmas Even instead of waiting until Christmas morning. Each year I make sure that my partner opens one gift on Christmas eve regardless of how small it may be. I’ve never told him this but it’s one of those little things that keeps the memory alive.

Each year we put up two Christmas trees. His and His if you will, lol. I like a tree with multi-colored lights and glittery ornaments. Brian on the other hand prefers white lights and a tree full of ornaments both from his childhood and from his travels. Both trees are stunning and it’s disappointing each year when they have to come down.

There is also a massive Christmas village that Brian puts up each year. Probably 50-ish houses and all of the people to match. It’s a Department 56 village so it has all of trimmings to really make it come alive. A few novelty houses as well such as Play-Doh and Lego. Takes a few hours to put it up and a few more to take it down.

I hope that everyone takes the time to truly enjoy this holiday season. I would love to hear some of your traditions!

New Site Design

Business , Etsy , GGMT • Nov 19, 2016

blogpost2016-nov-19

I’m excited to finally release a new site design! It features everything the site had before along with an integration to my shop items. I apologize if some of the updates are coming up slowly. It’s taken me a little bit longer than expected to learn the features of the new theme.

Etsy has truly been great to me and i’ve had somewhat moderate success but I know i’m going to outgrow their services at some point. My fees have seemed to be somewhat heavy for such a small shop but i’ve understood their important (marketing, storefront, etc). I can imagine paying the amount of fees i’ve been paying as my business continues to grow. On a small item the fee eats the majority of the product. Profit is the end goal (someday) but right now any income that’s coming in is going straight to product upgrades and stock merchandise.

I hope that everyone enjoys the new layout! I look forward to any feedback. Thank you as well to http://helloyoudesigns.com/ for the beautiful design and assistance with any setup and this beautiful stock image above.

Opening My Own Business – Vol 1

02.14.16

I’ve decided to go out on a limb in 2016 and start my own business. Yes, my very own baby! It definitely wasn’t an overnight decision and was something i’ve been wanting to do for sometime that i’ve kept to myself. The idea for the store came with the want for a Silhouette Cameo came to me.

If your not familiar with the Silhouette machines it’s definitely worth checking out. I wanted the machine more for Project Life but couldn’t justify the $199 price tag. Then it came to me.. I spend all this money on stickers and stamps for my planner why not make my own? I crunched some numbers and thought that it might actually be possible to make my money back! My hope is to make enough to  balance the cost of the machine. I figure if I haven’t made back the money i’ve spent on the initial investment by the end of the year, then the venture may not be worth it.

So.. let’s keep it real.. when i ordered the machine I actually spent about double what I was expecting to spend. Oops, lol. I found an intro package that had a bunch of accessories I felt were important. Better to have it instead of getting stuck when I need it. At some point I would love to do a review of the tools. As a newbie it’s been essential having most of them if not all of them (amen for the scraper).

I opened my Etsy store on January 24th, 2016 and so far i’ve had TWO SALES! Sounds exciting but one was my partner and the other was my best friend from high school, lol. I will take it though! It’s a start. I’ve done a lot of research on Etsy and how the site works so i’m hoping that the sales being to boost my store within their site.

Currently my main focus is going to be Planner Stickers. Mainly in the Icon style format. I’ve branched out a tiny bit with Hello Kitty and Inkwell Press inspired designs. My goal is to get into vinyl and expand my options a bit more. Below is an example of one of my sets, titled #ADMINPROBLEMS.

02.14.16(small1)

I haven’t been active enough on my blog in years. Ugh.. the struggle is real, lol. I feel like it’s never had a purpose outside of my fanlistings so i’m excited to see what this adventure hold for me and the brand new God Give Me Truth.

I would love for anyone interested to a place an order. Between now and August 16, 2016 I am offering a 25% discount to anyone that visit’s my site here and places an order. Just use code WEBSITE25!

Looking Back – Part 2

I was able to get my DOMAIN page setup last night! It was great taking a quick stroll down memory lane. I think that sometimes I get stuck in the now and where I could be instead of looking back on where i came from, the past. One of my greatest online achievements was owning MR LACHEY .COM. It was a fan site dedicated solely to Nick Lachey.

I have been a fan of Nick since his days with 98 Degrees. Everybody knew that he was basically the lead of the group. Through my love of the band I became a Jessica Simpson fan. To-date Jessica Simpson is actually my favorite singer (if its May 2014 your actually seeing a beautiful spring layout featuring Ms. Simpson). I wanted to run a fan site for what seemed like forever. Being a Jessica fan that was my first plan but competing with amazing sites such as Sweet Kisses just didn’t seem practical. Why re-invent the wheel?

The show Newlyweds: Nick & Jessica had taken off and a friend actually suggested MR SIMPSON .COM. Jessica had the fame in the relationship and was gaining momentum since the show had started. It was funny but just wasn’t what I really wanted. It almost seemed a little mean. It was one of those things that they always asked about in interviews, “How do you feel about Jessica Simpson’s success from the show?”. Thus… MR LACHEY was born!

I ran the site pretty steady for a couple of years. I enjoyed it. As i began college though it got to be a bit much. Still fun, but just to much to keep up with the daily activities, photo additions, and overall maintenance that the site required. The site basically dropped to nothing. I had one final stint where I had the bright idea to begin again but just never continued with it. I don’t regret letting the site go. I outgrew it and honestly won’t look back regretting that decision.
