Looking Back – Part 2

05.03.14

I was able to get my DOMAIN page setup last night! It was great taking a quick stroll down memory lane. I think that sometimes I get stuck in the now and where I could be instead of looking back on where i came from, the past. One of my greatest online achievements was owning MR LACHEY .COM. It was a fan site dedicated solely to Nick Lachey.

I have been a fan of Nick since his days with 98 Degrees. Everybody knew that he was basically the lead of the group. Through my love of the band I became a Jessica Simpson fan. To-date Jessica Simpson is actually my favorite singer (if its May 2014 your actually seeing a beautiful spring layout featuring Ms. Simpson). I wanted to run a fan site for what seemed like forever. Being a Jessica fan that was my first plan but competing with amazing sites such as Sweet Kisses just didn’t seem practical. Why re-invent the wheel?

The show Newlyweds: Nick & Jessica had taken off and a friend actually suggested MR SIMPSON .COM. Jessica had the fame in the relationship and was gaining momentum since the show had started. It was funny but just wasn’t what I really wanted. It almost seemed a little mean. It was one of those things that they always asked about in interviews, “How do you feel about Jessica Simpson’s success from the show?”. Thus… MR LACHEY was born!

I ran the site pretty steady for a couple of years. I enjoyed it. As i began college though it got to be a bit much. Still fun, but just to much to keep up with the daily activities, photo additions, and overall maintenance that the site required. The site basically dropped to nothing. I had one final stint where I had the bright idea to begin again but just never continued with it. I don’t regret letting the site go. I outgrew it and honestly won’t look back regretting that decision.

Volunteer Day

Business , Personal • May 1, 2014

I don’t feel like there is any better feeling than giving back to the community! I wish i had the time (and i admit it, energy) to do SO MUCH MORE. It is always an amazingly rewarding experience. I admit that at the end of the day there is nobody that I can blame besides myself but that is one thing I really want to change over the rest of 2014.

I work for a company that really supports the growth of their local communities. They encourage each of us to get out, volunteer, and they allow us to do it while getting paid! You can’t beat that?! Each year we have two major events that they really encourage as many of us that can get out and help to do so. As an administrative assistant there aren’t any places that i usually have to be so it works out for me to attend. We do a joint venture with out local food bank during the annual HARVEST FOR HUNGER activities and then we do quiet a bit with UNITED WAY a couple of times throughout the year. Our main event helping clean up the community in the summer.

I spent a lot of my time wrapped up in work, friends, family, fanlistings, and various other things that although they are important to me there really are so many much more important things that we could be worrying about. Now – i’m not out of touch with reality. I can’t stop doing everything that i enjoy to spend all my time volunteering but giving at least an evening or afternoon a month won’t hurt.

I’ve applied to volunteer at our gay network in the local community but i never hear back. I got a letter a couple of months back stating that they were being taken over by a new group and that the volunteer database would be cleaned end up. Well.. that never happened. I sent a response saying how i was willing to participate and my organization was in full support. A gentleman responded and said that people would be following up and of course nobody did.

Does anybody else volunteer on a regular basis?

One Sip Closer To Spring

Good Eating , Personal , Random • Apr 27, 2014

I know .. I know .. cheesy title. I’m still loving it! I have found this BEAUTIFUL spring blend of coffee from STARBUCKS. I have to admit that I buy the majority (basically all) of my coffee from my partners sister. She has a coffee/tea/wine company that has an awesome selection of goodies.

Anyway (not to self .. stop rambling) i was browsing the halls of TARGET when i came across this gem. I had previously had Target brand coffee in the flavor of Carrot Cake. G – R – O – S – S. Honestly, it was gross. I was looking for something new that would get me through that lull between my monthly coffee delivery and my need for that daily cup (or 3) of coffee.

It may be 5:00PM but why not enjoy a cup now?! That sun is out, birds are going, and i need to mow the yard. Perfect time! BTW – me needing to mow the yard means it’s summer. I enjoy mowing but we have had a crappy mower and it just hasn’t worked out for me. Became more of a chore.

Anyway (again .. rambling) so far i’m really enjoying the taste. I don’t understand why they say it “tastes like spring” but whatever. I’m enjoying it! Any springtime favorites you are starting to enjoy?

Our master blenders offer their expression of spring in this lively, remarkably balanced coffee. Combining exquisite beans from Latin America and East Africa reveals spirited, juicy notes and medium body. Created to perfectly pair with buttery shortbread and early harvest berries—a love poem to the season of renewal.

Balancing

Business , Personal , Random • Apr 26, 2014

Everything in life is simply one big BALANCING ACT. I feel like i’m constantly trying to balance everything that goes on in my life. Personal items, work items, and all of those items that feel in between the two. Bills to pay, websites to update, events to attend, contests to create, and a large home to clean and care for.

Initially as I write this i’m feeling a bit like i’m complaining (thats what I started out intending to do.. honestly) but i’m truly not. I’m speaking truth. To be successful in anything that you do it’s all about the balancing. Some people call it multi-tasking or prioritizing but lets be honest your balancing. Juggling multiple events and activities is what makes you look and appear like you know what you are doing.

My new position not new position as an Administrative Assistant within my organization has spent the last two months putting me to this realization. I am loving this new position and all the benefits/perks that go along with it but it’s been a bit more of a challenge than I honestly was expecting it be. I would say it’s a challenge that i handle well and i’m loving! I work for a large back and get the pleasure of supporting 3 managers. I’m always on my toes!

How do YOU balance?

WWE Network

I can’t even tell you how freaking EXCITED I am for the upcoming WWE NETWORK!

As a longtime WWE fan I think this is a genius idea! I have been a WWE follower for probably almost 17 years now (yes .. i’m turning 27 in a week!). The WWE Attitude era was one point in WWE history that has yet to be topped. The company has tried, tried and tried again but everytime they fail to surpass just the overall feeling of that time period in sports entertainment history.

One big problem as a fan is that I really haven’t been able, or had the ability, to watch the Pay-Per-View events. Besides the fact that they are expensive i’ve never had a cable box! Now don’t get me wrong, I do have cable, but i’ve never had a box. I’m one of those people that still have an original TIVO box. Because of the Tivo we don’t have the ability to order PPV events.

Quite awhile back WWE introduced Pay-Per-View streaming on their website. I’ve watched quite a few over the years via that method. But again, who wants to spend 3 or 4 hours sitting at their computer watching the event. Not fun.. i’d rather sit by my TV and use my computer, lol.

Last year WWE introduced the WWE Mobile App. You could then order PPV events via that. The great thing there is that I could order the even on my iPad and then stream it to my TV via Apple TV. FINALLY – i had a solution. But again, the price. They run $40 – $60 depending on the individual event so I really just had to pick and choose what it was I wanted to order throughout the year.

I tended to always order WRESTLEMANIA and the ROYAL RUMBLE. Both are my absolute favorites. Other than that I honestly would just pick and choose what it was i wanted throughout the year.

Now – for only $10 a month you get ALL OF THIS. It’s available the same way systems like Netflix and Hulu are now. I’ll be able to watch on my phone, my computer and i’m sure directly on my TV via Tivo and Playstation. I guess this brings me to some concerns…

The first is the fact that WWE is already hitting many roadblocks. The creative team behind the scripting is just not all there, all the time. Now – not all of it is bad. It just gets old. It gets boring at times. And it sure is all is no attitude era. Either way – I am still excited and I can’t wait until it’s roll out at the end of the month. Nothing better than ALL WWE ALL THE TIME!
